  • Class Description:
Surprises can be fun—but not when it comes to your print job! The last thing you want are calls saying there’s a problem with your file or your boss asking why the last job was thousands of dollars over budget. Surprisingly, most problems with output and printing originate during page layout (this means you!).

This class shows you how to avoid costly problems. You will learn what happens to your job after it leaves your computer. Questions to ask the printer before starting a project. What causes font problems and how to avoid them. Scanner limitations and how to work around them.

You will also learn about the special problems with special effects. How to use proofing to maximize accuracy and minimize expense. What to do when things go wrong. Paper characteristics, costs, and choices. Where to get the information you need about papers. Color printing choices and causes of color problems.

We’ ll also teach you the relationship between screens, paper, and dot gain. Moiré, rosette, and stochastic patterns. Trapping: when, where, why, or why not. Job Prep & Preflight. Free and commercial software that helps get your job ready for the printer.
